Most Kiosk owners tend to think that since it is smaller and involves a low budget, it is very easy to run this business. Actually, Kiosk businesses whether it retail kiosk or interactive kiosk, involve a lot of communication and transactions with manufacturers, kiosk suppliers, consultants, site managers, sales staff, installers and many more. So it is complex and without proper planning and allocation of resources everything could come crashing down. Here are some common mistakes to be avoided while starting a kiosk project. .

1.  Having no clear idea on the ROI.

There should be a clear idea of the ROI or return on investment otherwise the business will fail. A proper business plan should be made so as to get a clear idea of the profits before manufacturing the kiosk.

2. Starting a kiosk business without the required capital.

Although a fixed capital would be decided at the beginning, the kiosk business is rather unpredictable so it is always necessary to have a sufficient supply rather than a set amount.

3. Selecting hardware before finalizing software.

This is a major mistake which will cause a lot of losses right at the start. A thorough research should be done on the compatibility of the hardware and software before buying hardware.

5. Buying cheap hardware.

This will lower cost at the beginning but on the long run it will prove costlier. Take care to choose the kiosk hardware according to the place it will be deployed. For outdoor kiosks may need stronger exteriors and extra protection to withstand weather conditions and potential vandalism. Plan this at the kiosk design stage.

6. Expecting the internet to always work perfectly.

Internet will always have connection issues and other problems, especially in the case of interactive kiosks. Clearing the cache and cookies, checking and updating the antivirus will ensure good performance for a longer period.

7. No proper survey for the site.

Do not make site decisions based on the management's word. Always make the technician and the kiosk manufacturer go through the site before finalizing the location.

8. Calling on inexperienced installers.

This will reduce cost in the starting time but installers who have no previous experience can make many mistakes and would not have the correct solution to problems. Always employ personnel with expertise in retail kiosks and digital signage installation.

9. No coordination with existing business.

Kiosk sale should be integrated with the current business and promotional programs. Sales people at the retail kiosk should be properly trained to properly implement these programs.

10. Not doing enough to attract customers to come and buy the products.

It's no use setting up the kiosk and sitting there without actually doing the sales talk. POP displays are a good way to catch the attention of the passerby and encourage them to come and take a look.

11. Not providing a solution to report problems.

There should be a toll free number written on the kiosk that will help the customers and the kiosk staff to report any problems directly to the company or the kiosk supplier.

12. Not accounting for long term problems.

After a period, the kiosk will begin to show wear and tear. There must be an account made for the maintenance and repair of the kiosk. So that there will be funds available when the time comes.

13. Hiring inexperienced kiosk consultants and manufacturers.

This is one huge blunder that may topple your business. Inexperienced consultants may give you the wrong information which will result in huge losses. Always go for successful kiosk manufacturers and vendors who have a history of producing top quality work.
